Koh Phangan, like Ko Samui, is a high granite island with resorts along all the beaches and bays. This bay named "Ao Thong Ta Pan" is at the northeast corner of the island. It offered good protection from the prevailing westerly winds of August when we were there. The coconut plantations on the hills of all these islands were once the mainstay of the region's economy.
